Blake Shelton proved that his playful rivalry with Luke Bryan is still alive and well after spotting an unexpected fashion choice in the crowd during a recent concert.
The country superstar was performing when he noticed one fan wearing a Luke Bryan T-shirt at his own show — and Shelton immediately turned the moment into a comedy routine.
“You come to my show, wearing Luke Bryan s**t? What’s the matter with you?” Shelton joked while addressing the fan. “That guy’s an idiot! Quick, get her some merch on me.”

The crowd quickly realized Shelton was not actually upset, but simply leaning into the long-running friendly competition between the two country music stars.
Apparently, Shelton’s team took his request seriously and brought the fan some official merchandise.
Later during the show, Shelton checked back in with the concertgoer to make sure she had changed into something more appropriate.
“Did you get one of my shirts finally?” he asked. “Put the damn thing [on]. Please put that on! [I have to] stand here looking at Luke Bryan’s face all night. It’s making me sick.”
The hilarious exchange quickly became another memorable chapter in Shelton and Bryan’s famous friendship, where teasing and playful insults have become part of their public personalities.
A Country Music Rivalry Built on Friendship
Despite their constant jokes about each other, Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan have been longtime friends who regularly poke fun at one another.
During a recent appearance on Are Y’all Okay?, Bryan joked that his biggest complaint about Shelton was that he believed he deserved more recognition for his looks.

“I am better looking than Blake Shelton,” Bryan teased. “[I] should have won People’s Sexiest Man. I can die on that hill.”
The friendly competition between the two singers has also extended to their music careers.
The year before, Bryan joked during an interview with CMT that staying ahead of Shelton’s number of No. 1 hits was one reason he continued pushing forward in country music.
“That’s the only reason that I’m still in the game of country music, to stay ahead,” Bryan joked. “I thought he was retiring. He’s back putting songs out. It’s not the deal we had.”
Both Stars Continue Their Music Careers
While they may enjoy competing with each other, neither artist appears ready to slow down.
Shelton released his latest album, “For Recreational Use Only,” in May 2025.
Meanwhile, Bryan is preparing to release his upcoming album “Signs” in September.

Speaking about the new project, Bryan said he was excited to share fresh music with fans.
“It is always a great day when I get the chance to release new music,” Bryan said in a press release announcing the album. “I’ve been working on this album for the past year, and I just love how it turned out.”
The singer explained that he was able to collaborate with writers in Nashville while also contributing to some songs himself.
“I feel like my fans have always let me record songs that make you feel good, so I went into this album wanting everyone to just have fun,” he added.
From playful concert moments to friendly competition, Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan continue to prove that one of country music’s most entertaining rivalries is built on genuine friendship.
