Peg Munson and Mel Owens have ended their relationship, nearly a year after their romance began on The Golden Bachelor. Munson, 63, confirmed the breakup in an emotional Instagram video on October 21, revealing that she made the difficult decision to leave the relationship while focusing on her health and healing.
Owens, 67, a former NFL linebacker, chose Munson during the Season 2 finale of the ABC dating series last year. Although their journey ended with a commitment rather than a traditional marriage proposal, the pair continued building their relationship away from the cameras.
In her announcement, Munson thanked supporters who had followed her romantic journey and apologized for waiting to address the split publicly. She described the preceding 30 days as particularly difficult, explaining that she needed time before speaking about what had happened.
Munson said she joined The Golden Bachelor hoping to find love and felt grateful that she had experienced it. However, she ultimately decided to step away from the relationship, acknowledging that love does not always guarantee the outcome two people hope for.
She did not disclose the specific circumstances that led to their separation. Instead, the retired firefighter and bomb technician said her priority was now healing her heart and taking care of herself and her health.
Despite the breakup, Munson expressed goodwill toward Owens and appreciation for the experience they shared. She also thanked followers for their supportive direct messages and kind words during what she described as a challenging period.
In the caption accompanying her video, Munson reiterated her gratitude to those who had stood by her throughout the past year. She also signaled that she intends to move forward, describing the breakup not as the end of her story but as the beginning of a new chapter.
From the Final Rose to a Real-Life Relationship

Munson was one of 25 women competing for Owens’ affection during the second season of The Golden Bachelor, which aired from September to November 2025.
Owens, who played linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams, ultimately gave Munson his final rose. He had even selected a 3.5-carat diamond ring, but he did not propose during the finale. Instead, he chose to express his commitment to continuing their relationship.
At the final rose ceremony, Owens declared that he was in love with Munson, who reciprocated his feelings. Following the finale, the couple said their connection continued to grow, with Owens describing their progress together positively.
Over the following months, they offered glimpses of their life as a couple on social media. Munson shared videos of Owens cooking for her, as well as footage of the two shopping together during the summer.
Their last Instagram post together on Munson’s page, shared in September, featured a lighthearted debate about what to call a faucet. She described these ordinary conversations as the kind of random moments that became cherished memories.
Now, after approximately a year together, their relationship has come to an end. While Munson has not revealed what prompted her decision, her announcement makes clear that she is turning her attention toward recovery, personal well-being and whatever comes next.
