Megan Moroney has quickly become an integral part of Kenny Chesney’s current headlining Sun Goes Down Tour. Not only does she serve as an opener for the shows, but she also regularly joins Chesney on stage to help perform a song from his catalog. During the tour’s stop at Chicago, IL’s Soldier Field on Saturday, June 15, the pair of country stars united once again for an unforgettable rendition of “You and Tequila.”

Chesney’s GRAMMY-nominated tune impacted country radio over a decade ago and it has remained a staple in his live shows to this day. The smash hit, penned by Deana Carter and Matraca Berg, was released as the fourth single from Chesney’s 13th studio album, Hemingway’s Whiskey, and features guest vocals from Grace Potter.

While on stage, Moroney steps in to deliver Potter’s part in the song, resulting in a string of effortless harmonies with the Knoxville, TN native. Their recent performance in Chicago left the audience dazzled as they brought joy and passion to the stage through the narrative that compares the emotional rollercoaster of a relationship to the effects of the libation.

Moroney added her unique musical stylings to the fan-favorite tune as she donned black cutoffs and a mesh rhinestone cropped top while the country superstar maintained his breezy coastal energy with blue jeans, navy blue and orange tank top and beach cowboy hat.

“’Cause you and Tequila make me crazy/ Run like poison in my blood/ One more night could kill me, baby/ One is one too many, one more is never enough,” they sing on the chorus.

Moroney Reflects On A Full Circle Moment

This run with Chesney has marked one of Megan Moroney’s biggest tours to date. She reflected on this opportunity while speaking with Angie Ward of 94.9 the Bull prior to taking the stage at Atlanta, GA’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium at the start of the tour. She revealed the last time Kenny Chesney played that venue in 2018, she attended as a fan who sat in the 300 level with her friends and now, she’s on that stage singing alongside the country music icon each night.

“Old Dominion and Thomas Rhett was opening for him, and I was the drunk girl in the nosebleeds,” she joked before adding, “if you’re gonna be the drunk girl in the nosebleeds tonight, don’t give up.”

Taking Notes From Chesney

Moroney also noted that she is trying to soak up every moment of this journey and is making a great effort to learn as much as possible from watching her tourmate on stage.

“When I’m watching him [Kenny Chesney], I’m paying attention to different scene changes of the show, when the lights black out, what he’s doing… just being able to watch him as a performer… something is working out really well,” she shared.
