Steve Kazee is standing by his fiancée, Jenna Dewan, as she continues her journey on Dancing With the Stars following a major change involving her professional dance partner, Val Chmerkovskiy.
The Shameless actor shared a heartfelt message for Dewan, 45, on his Instagram Stories Saturday, October 17, alongside a photo of her dressed up for the show’s Super Bowl Night.
“Everytime I think I can’t love you more, your grace, your class and your heart prove me wrong,” Kazee, 50, wrote. He followed the message with another show of support, adding, “You got this baby! We got you!”

Kazee, who got engaged to Dewan in 2020, has supported the Step Up star since she joined Season 35 of DWTS in September. However, her competition journey has taken an unexpected turn after Chmerkovskiy, 40, was suspended from the show for one week because of a controversial social media post.
The incident began after judge Carrie Ann Inaba criticized Chmerkovskiy’s wife, fellow professional dancer Jenna Johnson, during her Super Bowl Night performance with actor Harry Shum Jr. Johnson, 32, and Shum performed a samba that included a lift, prompting Inaba to explain the rule during the live broadcast.

“Any movement during which one of the dancers has both feet off the floor at the same time with the assistance or support of their partner,” the judge, 58, read from a piece of paper. Inaba also told Shum that he needed to “put more content in [his] dances.”
Chmerkovskiy later defended his wife in a TikTok status, writing, “You almost saw Fresh Prince enter the ballroom last night.” The remark referenced Will Smith’s infamous 2022 Oscars incident, when the actor approached comedian Chris Rock and slapped him after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Inaba appeared to respond to Chmerkovskiy’s post through her own Instagram Stories, writing, “So this is what we are doing now?”
Days later, BBC Studios confirmed that Chmerkovskiy would not participate in the following week’s episode of Dancing With the Stars. The producer stressed that the well-being of everyone working on the show was non-negotiable and said his social media post was inappropriate and did not reflect the standards expected of anyone connected with the series.

Chmerkovskiy subsequently addressed the suspension, explaining that his instinct had been to defend Johnson. However, he later apologized for his decision to reference the viral meme, admitting that he had not considered the other implications his words could carry.
“Carrie Ann certainly didn’t deserve to get caught in the middle of my bad judgment, and I hate that she was,” he said. He also stressed that he did not want to distract from the competition or from the work his dance partner, Jenna Dewan, had been putting in.

With Chmerkovskiy sitting out for one week, Dewan will take the ballroom floor with professional dancer Alan Bersten on Tuesday’s Dedication Night. The pair will perform a Viennese waltz in honor of Dewan’s mother, Nancy Bursch.
As Dewan prepares for the new partnership, Kazee’s message makes clear that she has his support while navigating the unexpected change in her DWTS journey.
