‘The Voice’ Season 30 Battles Deliver a Shocking Elimination and a Double Steal as One Contestant Faces a Major Decision

The Voice Season 30 kicked off its first Battle Rounds episode on October 12, bringing emotional performances, difficult coaching decisions and a cliffhanger that left fans waiting for the next night’s episode. With Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Riley Green and Queen Latifah guiding their teams, the competition became even tougher as contestants fought to secure their places in the next stage.

Hosted by Carson Daly, the episode featured celebrity advisers Ariana DeBose for Team Kelly, Patti LaBelle for Team Queen, Carly Pearce for Team Riley and Alex Warren for Team Adam. Each coach had one steal available, but there were no saves, making every decision especially important.

Queen Latifah Chooses Alt Bloom Over Morgan Lett

Team Queen opened the Battles with Alt Bloom and Morgan Lett, who performed Ex-Factor by Lauryn Hill. The singers brought contrasting styles to the stage, with Morgan delivering a traditional R&B sound and Alt standing out through his distinctive tone and high register.

Their performance impressed the coaches, although opinions differed over which contestant deserved to advance. Kelly Clarkson praised both singers, while Riley Green leaned toward Morgan’s energetic approach. Queen Latifah appreciated Morgan’s note choices but believed Alt held his own against his opponent.

Ultimately, Queen selected Alt Bloom, eliminating Morgan from the competition. The decision came as a surprise to the recap’s reviewer, who felt Alt’s individuality gave him the edge.

Adam Levine Picks Connor Closs After an Evenly Matched Battle

Next, Connor Closs and Cal Cook took on Homewrecker by Sombr for Team Adam. Levine paired the singers because he believed they could complement each other, while adviser Alex Warren encouraged them to bring more emotion to the performance.

Both contestants delivered polished vocals, strong runs and the kind of synchronized energy that made them sound like members of a boy band. The coaches found little separating the pair, with Clarkson favoring Connor and Queen Latifah also praising his vocal runs.

Levine admitted the decision came down to a very small difference in performance. In the end, Connor advanced, while Cal was eliminated.

Riley Green Advances Joe Henley Over Kenna Elpers

Team Riley’s Joe Henley and Kenna Elpers performed Green’s song Don’t Mind If I Do, a challenge that highlighted their different levels of experience.

Kenna brought greater performance experience to the pairing, while Joe had limited familiarity with singing in front of an audience and had never used a microphone stand before. Green worked with Joe on using his lower register, while Carly Pearce encouraged the contestants to harmonize rather than simply sing in unison.

Their contrasting voices created a compelling duet, with Joe’s deep baritone drawing particular attention. Clarkson revealed that she had wanted Joe during the Blind Auditions, while Levine and Queen Latifah also expressed a preference for him.

Green chose Joe to advance, ending Kenna’s run. Despite Kenna’s contribution to the performance, no coach used a steal to keep her in the competition.

For Team Kelly, Koumba Diallo and Lance Tenazas tackled Billie Eilish’s Birds of a Feather, an emotional ballad that required both singers to deliver a delicate, connected performance.

Clarkson saw potential in the two young vocalists and demonstrated the emotional approach she wanted them to take. She also compared 15-year-old Koumba to a young Lauryn Hill.

The pair delivered a restrained duet that impressed the coaching panel. Adam Levine was particularly struck by Koumba, while Green also favored her performance. Queen Latifah praised the seamless way the singers worked together.

Clarkson ultimately chose Koumba to advance, eliminating Lance. She also promised to help him after the show, recognizing his talent despite the difficult decision.

Everett Bounds and Caroline Alexis Bring Romance to Team Riley

One of the episode’s most memorable performances came from Everett Bounds and Caroline Alexis, who revealed that they had flirted when they first met and had gone on a couple of dates by the time the show was taped.

The pair performed Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man, the classic country duet associated with Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. Green and Pearce helped them incorporate their personalities into the performance, including advice on movement and stage chemistry.

Their connection was evident throughout the duet, adding a playful quality to the country song. The coaches noticed the chemistry, and Adam Levine said he would choose Everett.

Green agreed, sending Everett through and eliminating Caroline. Their budding romance added another emotional layer to a competition where only one singer could continue.

Queen Latifah’s Decision Triggers a Double Steal

The final featured battle paired Kayleigh Matthews and Lillie Kolich, close friends competing on Team Queen. They performed Girl Crush by Little Big Town, with adviser Patti LaBelle helping them focus on vocal balance, clear delivery and confidence.

Both singers delivered strong performances, showcasing powerful vocals and polished harmonies. Clarkson called it her favorite cover of the song, while Levine suggested Lillie had risen to the challenge.

Queen Latifah praised the performance but ultimately chose Lillie Kolich as the winner. The decision did not end Kayleigh’s journey, however. Clarkson and Green both used their available steals to fight for the eliminated singer.

Kayleigh was left with a major decision: whether to join Team Kelly or Team Riley. The episode ended before she revealed her choice, leaving viewers to wait for Tuesday’s broadcast.

When Does ‘The Voice’ Season 30 Continue?

The Battle Rounds continue on Tuesday, October 13, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, with the next-day episode available to stream on Peacock.

The broadcast is expected to reveal whether Kayleigh chooses Clarkson or Green after both coaches made their case for her. Following a night of unexpected decisions and close vocal matchups, the next episode will determine how the competition continues to take shape.
