Ariana Grande has decided to step away from her next stage project and will take a break from public life after wrapping up her Eternal Sunshine Tour, her team has confirmed.
The singer’s representative said Grande plans to retreat from the spotlight once the tour ends, citing the intense public attention she has faced in recent months.
“Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour,” a spokesperson told People.
The representative added that Grande hopes to finish the tour “on a high note, both healthily and happily” before taking “a much deserved break from public facing work and appearances,” saying the constant public scrutiny has become overwhelming.
The decision means Grande will no longer star in the upcoming West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George.
She had been scheduled to perform alongside her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey at London’s Barbican Centre next summer, giving fans another chance to see the pair together after their roles as Glinda and Fiyero in the Wicked films.
Although she is no longer involved in the production, a source told People that Grande is excited to support the cast and creative team from the sidelines.
Following the announcement, production company Empire Street Productions released a statement confirming her departure.
“Following this evening’s announcement from Ariana Grande’s team, we can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George,” the statement read.
“We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support. We wish her nothing but the best.”
The company also confirmed that the production will still open at the Barbican in summer 2027, with a replacement cast member to be announced later.
Grande is still expected to complete all remaining dates on her Eternal Sunshine Tour, including ten scheduled performances at London’s O2 Arena later this month.
The announcement comes just days after the release of her new album, Petal, and its title track music video, which sparked widespread discussion online about the singer’s appearance. Many fans expressed concern over how thin Grande looked in the video, while others urged people to avoid making assumptions about her health.
Lyrically, Petal marks a confident new chapter for the pop star. In the title track, Grande sings about overcoming difficult experiences and reclaiming her own story, declaring that she is “not a victim” and embracing her success despite personal setbacks.
The album follows Eternal Sunshine, which explored the emotional fallout from the end of her marriage to real estate agent Dalton Gomez.
According to recent reports, Grande has also reunited with former boyfriend Ricky Alvarez following her reported split from Wicked co-star Ethan Slater earlier this year, though she has not publicly commented on her current relationship status.
