Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is reportedly set to miss the Royal Family’s annual summer gathering at Balmoral, with sources claiming the former Duke of York has little chance of joining the royals in Scotland this year.

As the Royal Family prepares for its traditional summer stay in Scotland, reports suggest King Charles has no plans to see his estranged brother and is unlikely to extend an invitation to Balmoral.

According to The Times, Charles and Andrew “remain estranged.” A source claimed Andrew’s presence among the wider royal family could create “considerable sensitivities,” although it remains unclear whether he has formally been banned from the royal retreat.

The reported snub comes after a turbulent period for Andrew. He has been living a more isolated life in Norfolk after losing his titles and honours last year and being forced to give up his lease on Royal Lodge in February.

The changes followed the release of another batch of Jeffrey Epstein files by the US Department of Justice. Andrew was also arrested on February 19, his birthday, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was released under investigation 11 hours later and has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The relationship between the brothers appears to have remained particularly strained. The last time Charles saw Andrew was in February, around the time of his arrest, while their most recent public appearance together came in September 2025 at the funeral of the Duchess of Kent in London.

Andrew is now reportedly “quite settled” in his new life at Marsh Farm within the Sandringham Estate. Royal sources say his days largely involve watching television, walking his dogs and occasionally riding.

Despite their estrangement, however, King Charles continues to financially support Andrew, including covering his staff and living expenses. According to sources, the monarch is said to feel he has “no choice” but to privately fund his brother in Norfolk in an effort to “contain” him there.

Following Andrew’s February arrest, the King issued a statement expressing his concern over the allegations and emphasizing that the matter should proceed through the proper legal process.

Charles said he had learned the news with “the deepest concern” and stressed that the authorities should be allowed to investigate appropriately. He concluded by making clear that “the law must take its course.”

With the royal family preparing for its Scottish summer, Andrew’s reported absence from Balmoral would mark another visible sign of the distance between the former Duke and the rest of the family.
