Princess Charlotte Mirrors Princess Kate in Uncanny Commonwealth Games Moment

Princess Charlotte looked every bit like her mother’s mini-me during the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, but it wasn’t just her matching outfit with Princess Kate that caught attention.

The 11-year-old royal appeared to have inherited one of her mother’s most recognizable mannerisms during the family’s outing on August 1, with cameras capturing an almost identical moment between the mother and daughter.

Charlotte joined Princess Kate, Prince William, Prince George and Prince Louis at The Hydro, where the royal family met athletes from England and Scotland.

With her exceptionally long hair worn loose, Charlotte repeatedly reached up to smooth her locks and tuck windblown strands behind her ears. Remarkably, Kate was doing almost exactly the same thing during the family’s conversation outside the stadium.

In footage from the event, Charlotte appeared confident and engaged as she spoke with English powerlifter Mark Swan, standing between her father, Prince William, and younger brother Prince Louis. Nearby, Kate chatted with Scottish gymnast Reuben Ward, repeatedly smoothing her own long hair and fixing loose strands.

The tiny detail created an uncanny mother-daughter mirror moment.

Kate and Charlotte’s Matching Style

The similarities between the pair didn’t stop with their mannerisms. Kate and Charlotte also coordinated their looks with black-and-white stripes for the sporting event.

Kate wore a US $175 (approximately £130) striped sweater vest from New York label La Ligne, identified by Royal Fashion Police on Instagram. She paired the piece with a pleated midi skirt and added a $3,790 (approximately £2,811) dark green racing jacket, which she wore open.

Charlotte, meanwhile, wore a collared Guess polka dot dress featuring tiers of stripes across the skirt.

Her hair was styled in loose, natural waves that fell past her shoulders, making it appear even longer than her mother’s polished tresses.

Charlotte’s Growing Confidence

Charlotte’s increasingly independent body language has also caught attention during her recent public appearances.

The young royal has accompanied her parents on numerous engagements, and according to psychologist Dr. Patricia Britto, there are subtle signs that Charlotte is becoming more confident and independent.

Britto, a Harley Street-based psychologist who holds a Doctorate in Professional Educational, Child and Adolescent Psychology (DEdPsy) from the UCL Institute of Education, explained that children Charlotte’s age naturally begin taking small steps toward independence.

She told HELLO! that this doesn’t mean they feel less connected to their parents. Instead, it can indicate that they feel secure enough to explore their surroundings independently.

Charlotte’s body language, Britto explained, can suggest both growing confidence and a secure relationship with her mother. Walking calmly beside a parent rather than being guided can indicate that a child feels internally steady and capable while remaining emotionally connected.

When the same behaviour appears across different public outings, Britto said, it can point to an ongoing pattern of growing confidence rather than simply being a one-off moment.

For royal watchers, Charlotte’s latest appearance offered another glimpse of that evolution — while her strikingly similar gestures to Kate provided an especially sweet reminder of just how much mother and daughter have in common.
