Prince William and Kate Middleton gave royal watchers a rare family moment as they brought all three of their children to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Scotland, marking several important firsts for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, both 44, attended the sporting event in Glasgow on August 1 with their children Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8. The family enjoyed several competitions, including netball and track cycling, during the international event held every four years.
The appearance marked the first public outing in Scotland for all three Wales children together. While George, Charlotte, and Louis regularly visit the royal family’s private Balmoral estate in the Scottish Highlands during summer breaks, the Commonwealth Games marked the first time they were seen publicly enjoying activities around the country.
The day was especially significant for Prince Louis, as it was his first time joining his parents and siblings at a public sporting event.
William and Kate are known for their love of sports and have previously taken George and Charlotte to events including soccer matches, tennis tournaments, and Wimbledon. George and Charlotte recently appeared together in the Royal Box at Wimbledon for the men’s singles final.
Louis quickly embraced the experience, smiling throughout the event and enjoying the atmosphere. He was seen wearing a bucket hat gifted by Team Wales and sharing a high-five with the Commonwealth Games mascot, a unicorn named Finnie.
Although Louis has attended major royal occasions before, including Trooping the Colour and holiday church appearances, the youngest Wales child has become known for his playful personality and memorable public moments.
From dancing along with music during royal celebrations to covering his ears during loud aircraft displays, Louis has often captured attention with his cheerful reactions. After the 2022 Platinum Jubilee celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II, William and Kate even highlighted his enthusiasm, writing that their family had an incredible time, “especially Louis…” with an eyes emoji.
During the Commonwealth Games visit, the royal children also shared details about their interests while meeting gymnasts Abigail and Emily Roper.
Kate revealed that Louis has been practicing his handstands, with the young prince responding, “A bit. But Charlotte says I’m not very good.”
Princess Charlotte, who previously said gymnastics was her favorite sport during the 2022 Commonwealth Games, confirmed she could perform a handstand. Meanwhile, George admitted flexibility was not his strength, reportedly saying, “I’m rubbish at anything that involves flexibility.”
The family also shared a humorous parenting moment when Welsh presenter Gethin Jones asked the children whether they wanted to see their parents ride a tandem bike in the velodrome.
George quickly replied, “No,” prompting William to joke, “We embarrass you enough as it is.”
The Commonwealth Games appearance came during the family’s annual summer break, when William and Kate typically step away from public duties to spend private time together. Their summer plans traditionally include visiting Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
The outing also came ahead of another major milestone for Prince George, who will begin his education at Eton College in September, following in his father’s footsteps at the prestigious boarding school.
