Prince George is quickly catching up with his father Prince William in height, with a new family appearance showing just how much the young royal has grown.

The 13-year-old Prince joined the Prince and Princess of Wales and his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where his impressive height immediately caught the attention of royal watchers.

In footage from the family’s outing, George appeared to stand almost level with his father, who is known as the tallest member of the royal family at around 6’3”. Walking beside his parents, George looked nearly as tall as Prince William and had also grown close to matching his mother, Princess Catherine, who is around 5’9”.

The teenager’s noticeable growth appears to reflect comments made by Catherine previously. During the Wales family’s Christmas Day walk in Sandringham last December, the Princess of Wales told a royal fan that George was “catching up with everybody.”

The family’s appearance in Glasgow marked a brief return to public duties during their annual summer break. George joined his parents and siblings as they watched events including netball, cycling, and judo at the Commonwealth Games, including a dramatic netball semi-final between Jamaica and Australia.

The Wales family later visited Wales House in Glasgow, where they met Welsh athletes and their families.

During the visit, Prince William shared a relatable parenting moment when he admitted that he and Catherine sometimes embarrass their teenage son.

The moment came after Catherine revealed that Dame Laura Kenny, the five-time Olympic champion cyclist, had encouraged her and William to try riding in the velodrome.

“I did say be careful what you wish for as they want to put us on a tandem bike in the velodrome,” Catherine joked.

When Welsh presenter Gethin Jones later asked George whether he wanted to see his parents riding a tandem bike, the young prince quickly responded, “No!”

William then joked, “We embarrass you enough as it is.”

The outing comes during a major year for George, who celebrated his 13th birthday last month, officially entering his teenage years. A special birthday photograph released by the family showed the young royal looking more grown-up than ever, wearing a suit at Kensington Palace following the Trooping the Colour celebrations.

The birthday celebrations continued with a video showing George rock climbing alongside his younger brother Prince Louis during the family’s Easter holiday in Cornwall.

Soon, George will take another major step in his royal journey as he prepares to begin his secondary education at Eton College in September, following in the footsteps of his father.
