The Terminal List returned with its highly anticipated Season 2 on October 21, bringing another dangerous mission for James Reece, played by Chris Pratt. Set against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war, the new installment follows the Navy SEAL commander as he uncovers a conspiracy involving Russian operatives, terrorist networks and a powerful warlord known as the Colonel.
More than four years after Season 1 concluded, the action thriller picks up with Reece hiding in Africa after avenging the deaths of his wife and daughter. His attempt to remain out of sight ends when the CIA tracks him down. In exchange for helping the agency locate suspected Al-Qaeda operative Amin al-Nawaz (Shadi Janho), Reece is offered a pardon and potentially life-saving surgery for his brain tumor.
During the investigation, Reece reunites with Freddy Strain (Gabriel Luna) and Jules Landry (Luke Hemsworth). But the mission becomes more complicated when he discovers that two moles have infiltrated the United States. Oliver Grey (Jeremy Bobb) is working for a Russian warlord called the Colonel, while Jules is secretly passing information to a terrorist network and coordinating attacks.
As the season builds toward its finale, Reece finds himself caught in a widening international conflict. The final episode delivers several major revelations, including the Colonel’s identity, the motive behind his conspiracy and an uncertain future for Reece.
Who Is the Colonel in The Terminal List Season 2?

Following a terrorist attack in Odesa, Ukraine, Voltstreem News owner Vasili Andrenov (Costa Ronin) tells his assistant, Yana (Olga Kurylenko), that they are heading to Russia. Yana initially does not understand the reason for the trip, but journalist Katie Buranek (Constance Wu) soon contacts her with information about Vasili’s connection to Oliver Grey, who has ties to the Colonel.
Yana decides to help the Americans by secretly passing along information she discovers during the journey. Vasili organizes a convoy toward the Ukrainian border, where the group plans to board a helicopter bound for Russia. However, Yana’s cooperation allows Reece and his team to follow closely behind.
The pursuit leads to a warehouse, where a shootout breaks out. Yana manages to escape and hides until the Americans can find her. Reece, meanwhile, chases Vasili and shoots him. When Vasili refuses to answer questions about the Colonel and the conspiracy, Reece hears Russian helicopters approaching and kills him with a pickaxe before fleeing.
The finale then reveals the truth behind the operation: Vasili was the Colonel’s nephew. The warlord’s real name is Ivan Zarkov (Ilia Volok), and his plan was to assassinate Russian President Drozdov and install Vasili as his replacement. With Vasili dead, the plan has suffered a major setback.
Does James Reece Die From His Brain Tumor?
Reece spends much of Season 2 refusing treatment for his brain tumor, even as his symptoms worsen. His condition remains a major concern throughout the story, adding another layer of danger to an already life-threatening mission.
After returning to the United States, Reece learns that his father killed Ivan’s brother during the Vietnam War. This revelation gives the conspiracy a deeply personal dimension, suggesting that Ivan’s actions are connected to a longstanding desire for revenge against Reece.
The discovery finally pushes Reece to agree to surgery. Although the decision offers hope that he may survive, the season ends without confirming the outcome of the operation.
What Happens to Katie Buranek?
Katie also reaches a turning point after Vasili is exposed as a terrorist. Having completed her book about him, she tells Reece that she needs a change.
Rather than publishing the manuscript, Katie hands it directly to Reece. She wants him to have the opportunity to determine whether his brain tumor has affected his memory. She also announces that she is leaving Voltstreem News and returning to her roots as a freelance war correspondent.
Her decision marks a new direction for her career while giving Reece a personal record he can use to assess what he remembers.
Will The Terminal List Return for Season 3?
As of October 22, Prime Video has not renewed The Terminal List for Season 3. The first two seasons adapted Jack Carr’s novels The Terminal List and True Believer, respectively, but the author has written several additional books in the series that could provide material for future episodes.
Chris Pratt has also expressed enthusiasm about continuing the show, pointing to Carr’s extensive collection of stories and the audience’s support.
Speaking to ComingSoon.net in October 2026, Pratt said, “The beauty is Jack’s a prolific writer. He’s got great stories.” He added that the cast and creative team would like to continue serving viewers as long as the audience keeps watching, describing the experience as a dream job.
For now, the Colonel’s identity and his plan have been revealed, but Reece’s recovery and the possibility of another season remain unresolved.
