A man has died after falling from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday afternoon, leaving fellow riders stranded on the attraction until they could be safely evacuated.

The unidentified man fell from the ride at the amusement park in Austell, Georgia, witnesses and park officials confirmed to local outlet 11Alive.

One witness said the man struck a roller coaster car three times during his fall. The incident was reportedly captured in a souvenir photograph taken by a park visitor.

“He was in our pictures,” the witness said. “He fell and hit the car three different times.”

Roller coaster halted as riders were evacuated

The fatal incident forced the Goliath to stop while it was climbing an incline, according to WSBTV. Riders were subsequently escorted off the attraction, with groups of four being evacuated from the cars at a time.

Images from the scene showed parkgoers being helped down from the stalled roller coaster.

The Goliath is one of the park’s major attractions. According to the Six Flags website, the ride reaches speeds of up to 70 miles per hour and stands 200 feet tall.

The representative added that park staff and local authorities responded immediately and that the park was cooperating with investigators.
