Justin Baldoni and his wife Emily Baldoni have spoken publicly for the first time after the conclusion of the highly publicized legal dispute connected to the 2024 film It Ends With Us. Nearly two years after the conflict began, the couple shared a message focused on healing, family and moving forward while acknowledging the emotional impact of the legal battle.
In a video posted on social media on July 8, Justin Baldoni explained that he and Emily had intentionally remained silent for much of the past two years. The actor and director said they had wanted to speak earlier but felt they needed to wait until the right moment.
“We have not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years,” Baldoni said, explaining that the couple did not want to add more noise while the legal process was ongoing.
Emily Baldoni said the moment felt appropriate to finally address what they had experienced, although she acknowledged there was still much they were not discussing publicly. The couple expressed gratitude toward the people who supported them throughout the difficult period, with Justin saying that “gratitude has saved us.”
The legal dispute began in December 2024 when Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni and others involved with It Ends With Us, alleging sexual harassment and retaliation. Baldoni denied the allegations and later filed a countersuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, publicist Leslie Sloane and her company, claiming defamation and breach of contract. That countersuit was eventually dismissed.
Before the case was settled, the legal proceedings had been narrowed, with only certain claims remaining. In May 2026, both sides announced that they had reached a settlement, bringing the courtroom battle to an end before the scheduled trial.

Following the settlement, Baldoni’s attorney Bryan Freedman described the outcome as a “total victory” for his clients. Meanwhile, Lively’s legal team released a statement emphasizing accountability and workplace protections. Both sides also released a joint statement expressing hope that the settlement would allow everyone involved to move forward.
In their recent video, Baldoni and Emily did not mention Lively by name. Instead, they reflected on the personal impact of the experience. Emily said their gratitude did not erase the pain and difficulties they had faced, describing the period as one involving significant emotional challenges.
“We are healing,” Baldoni said, adding that recovery after a traumatic experience is not always a straight path. He said the couple had focused on understanding what truly mattered to them, including their family, friends, community and faith.

Baldoni and Emily, who married in 2013, said the experience had brought them closer together. Emily added that there was still more they could share in the future, but for now they wanted to focus on spending time with their children and enjoying life.
The dispute attracted significant public attention because of the success of It Ends With Us, a romantic drama adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel. The film, directed by Baldoni and starring both Baldoni and Lively, became a commercial success, earning more than $350 million worldwide.
As both sides move forward after the settlement, Baldoni and Emily’s statement marks a shift away from legal arguments and toward a more personal reflection on the challenges they say they experienced during the dispute.
